Abstract:
BACKGROUND: Bite marks can play a vital role in personal identification of the assailants in the field of forensic odontology. In cases of rape, murder and violence physical evidences such as bite marks are considered variable. Bite marks are unique due to specific characteristics and teeth arrangement. While collecting bite marks the vital information like demographics, location of bite marks, shape of the mark, size of the mark, colour of the mark and the type of injury can be inferred which can be potential legal aid in personal identification and criminal prosecution . REASON: Bite mark evidence can assist the justice system to answer critical questions about the crime.
