Bioremediation of dairy effluent and mass production of algal biofertilizer.

Abstract:
Abstract: Objective: To screen the milk effluent for the presence of algal species, study the characters of the effluent and the algae and use it in application. Methodology: The milk effluent was collected from Avinashi, Tirupur, Tamil Nadu, India. The effluent was serially diluted and incubated under the light for 20 days. The water was tested for pH, TDS, COD, turbidity, total nitrogen and total phosphorous. The dilution in which the growth of algae was high was selected and mass production of algae was done. The algal mass was collected and use in application as biofertilizer. Results and discussion: The algae were found to grow well in 10% dilution. The algae were found to be Chlorella sorokiniana. After the growth of the algae the COD, pH, TDS and phosphorous are found to be reduced. When applied as fertilizer the growth was found to be greater.
