Abstract

The energy efficiency of routing algorithm is critical for improving the lifetime of battery constrained Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). The consideration of nodes heterogeneity in routing is essential for achieving optimal resource utilization. Clustering is an efficient way of extending network lifetime. This heterogeneity in the sensor nodes contributes to lifetime, stability, in the network. In this paper, we propose a novel clustering based routing technique: Traffic and Energy Aware Routing (TEAR) protocol for heterogeneous WSNs. Simulation result show that the proposed protocol performs better in terms of network existence, reliability and packet distribution compared to LEACH, SEP and DEEC Protocols.
