Abstract

Tooth whitening has become one of the most frequently requested dental procedures by the people nowadays. The people has come to demand whiter teeth, more perfect smiles and aesthetics. People apart from dental problems like dental caries, periodontal problems, etc are more concerned about their dental esthetics in todays time. Tooth whitening procedures provide a conservative and effective means to improve dental esthetics. Frequently used whitening agents are abrasives, anti-redeposition agents (prevention of deposition of chromophores), colorants, proteases, peroxides, and surfactants (removal of hydrophobic compounds from tooth surface).
