Abstract

The Ramnagar fort lies on the eastern bank of Holy Ganga river in Varansi district, U.P., India. It was built by Hindu Raja Kashi Naresh Balwant Singh in 1750 AD. Varanasi has been a cultural and religious centre of Hindus for several thousand years and prominently related with Ganga river. The Archaeological evidences Artefacts, objects found at Aktha and Ramnagar excavation sites. indicates inhabitation dating back to 1800 BC. The Ramnagar fort exhibits strategic Military Type fortification and Palaces residential structures reflects Colonial Architecture of 18th Century AD. The aim of the study is to elaborate the facts regarding Indian Hindu Heritage structures of the region including Architectural style/elements of fortification, site selection, landscape and religious Temples/monuments, cultural traditions. The fort site is located on a mound of Kaimur sandstone quartzitic rock exposure. Under methodology, the Satellite Remote Sensing data product imagery has been utilized of demarcation of physical domain of the region and existing fort structures have been interpreted and correlated with the records of Archives, Reports, literatures of historical and archaeological evidences and presented in form of Tables and Figures. The study reveals that the Ancient City Varanasi has been known as in many names eg. Kashi, Avimukta, Rudravasa, Benaras, Anand Kanan etc. Many ancient temples like Veda Vyasa Temple and Hanuman Temple, lies inside the Ramnagar Fort and opens for public one day in a year. The fort museum kept rare Collection of Royal costumes, Arsenels, European Ventage Cars, and Pandulipis of Sanskrit, Veda, Ramayana and literatures. The Ramnagar Fort is still the residence of Kashi Naresh. It needs maintenance and conservation to survive the cultural heritages of Varanasi and ancient Hindu religious temples of the Ramnagar Fort.
