Abstract: Speech is the most natural form of human communication. Communication is needed to delivery information. The language which is used as a communication to interact between others. But not everyone has the same language to communicate; there are many languages from different countries of the world. Speech-to-speech translation system able to converts source language into the target language. Speech processing hardware works on the principle of compare and forwardA database is already stored in the unit which is used for comparing with the input speech and the result is forwarded for further processing. The need arises from the inability of dictionaries and human translators to suit our needs for better communication. In this situation the prototype proposed will suffice the purpose reasonably well and minimize the communication inefficiencies. In this paper, an attempt is made to develop a real time speech-to-speech translation systemto overcome the languagebarrier. The speech-to-speech translation system which recognizes speech in one form of language and translates it into targetlanguage. The translation is done only for the locallanguages they are Kannada, English, Hindi and Telugu. Speech Translation is the process by which conversational spoken word(s) and/or phrase are translated and the result is obtained either in the form of words displayed on a screen or output being spoken aloud in the second language. The key to make this technology highly efficient is to automate this process and make it an interaudio conversion so that it produces simultaneous results without having to physically start the process of translation. This enables people to simply wear the device and hear native speech in their own languages. When everyone in the world is equipped with one of these devices, there would be total understanding and harmony. This technology is of tremendous importance as it enables speakers of different languages to communicate and adds value to humankind in terms of World Peace, Science and Commerce, Cross-Cultural exchange, World Politics and Global Business. The nascent stage of developing a personalized interpreter, we propose to develop a prototype which uses a speech processing software and on translators to provide the user with real time translation. Speech processing hardware works on the principle of ‘compare and forward’, i.e., a database is already stored in the unit which is used for comparing with the input speech and the result is forwarded for further processing. The need arises from the inability of dictionaries and human translators to suit our needs for better communication. In this situation the prototype proposed will suffice the purpose reasonably well and minimize the communication inefficiencies
