Diffuse pulmonary hemorrhage , granulomatous with polyangitis
Diffuse alveolar hemorrhage is a serious manifestation of WG with most studies showing a mortality of 60%, six times greater than vasculitis without pulmonary hemorrhage. The diagnosis is difficult since the occurrence is abrupt and both symptoms and histology of the lesion are nonuniform and nonspecific. Wegner’s Granulomatosis is the other name for Granulomatosis with Polyangitis first described by German pathologist Friedrich Wegener in 1936. It is a multi-system necrotizing non caseating granulomatous vasculitis which affects small to medium-sized vessels involving any organ system, most commonly the lungs and kidneys. As an early diagnosis and aggressive management with cytotoxic drugs offer best chances of survival in these patients.
