| Abstract: | Heat exchanger is a device which is used to transfer the heat from one medium to another medium. It is used mainly in process industries and power plants. In this study, a double pipe heat exchanger is modelled using Solid-works software. The overall heat transfer coefficient and effectiveness of heat exchanger is numerically studied and calculated for a simple double pipe heat exchanger. The properties of water and palm oil is used as the medium of fluid for heat transfer analysis. The results and findings are discussed and compared with the normal tube double pipe heat exchanger. The outlet temperature of the hot fluid in finless heat exchanger is 329oC whereas in finned heat exchanger is 326oC. Also, the outlet temperature of the cold fluid in finless heat exchanger is 321oC whereas in finned heat exchanger is 322oC. It is found that the heat exchanger with fins are more efficient compared with the finless type heat exchanger. |
