Abstract:
Inflammatory bowel disease are an immune mediated chronic/relapsing disorders of the (GI)tract can be induced by indomethacin (7.5mg/kg s.c for 2 days) morphological alterations were evaluated by macroscopic scoring system and on the base of histological changes in the small intestine. It was found that the indomethacin induced severe macroscopic changes (hyperaemia, petechia, bleeding, erosions, ulcerations) and significant histological alterations in the small intestine of rats which were definitely inhibited by mesalamine (50mg/kg)given as oral dose along with the plant herbs (Withania somnifera, Azardichta indica, Momordica charantia)for 28 days with the ratios 2:2:1, 2:1:2, 2:2:2 and 4th formulation with equal ratio were taken to complete acute toxicity studies. By the toxicity studies result in two different formulations with the ratios 2:2:1, 2:1:2 evaluated against Indomethacin induced IBD. After the study period blood and organs were collected for biochemical analysis and histopathological studies, the above findings prove that, Azadirachta indica, Momordica charantia, Withania somnifera mixtures has protective effect against indomethacin-induced inflammatory bowel disease.
