Abstract:
Abstract: Distillation is the process of separation of two components according to their boiling point. If the boiling points of the two components are nearly same to the each other then third component is used as solvent or entrainer for separation. N-hexane and ethyl acetate when undergoing distillation form a minimum boiling azeotrope indicates positive deviation from ideality with 65.7 mol% n-hexane at 64.58°C and 1 atm. For the separation of n-hexane and ethyl acetate, more suitable mechanism is azeotropic distillation where acetonitrile was used as entrainer. In this paper batch distillation process is demonstrated for the separation of n-hexane and ethyl acetate using acetonitrile as entrainer and the result are analysis using Gas chromatography.
