Abstract:
The problems of traffic jams is a part of our life in metropolitan cities now a days, all these leads to a great loss of natural resources like- fuel, gas, oil, etc. The studied junction of Shastri Park is surrounded by dense populated area and is heavily jammed by traffic during peak hours. It provide the major connectivity towards the Main locations of Delhi like- Kashmiri Gate, Mohan Nagar, Gandhi Nagar, and mainly to the newly constructed huge project of road department i.e. Eastern peripheral. Daily no. of passengers, goods vehicle passes through this junction. Although the junction is four leg with Six- Lane existing road but the junction capacity is not sufficient as per the present traffic volume scenario. During study various traffic surveys has been conducted and there result has been analyzed. A traffic characteristic has also been figure out for providing a better option at the junction. Hence, from the result of the surveys a proposal of grade separated structure has been proposed at the study junction to decongest the traffic. Half cloverleaf is the best suited proposal at this junction as this is surrounded by built up section from two sides. Design standards as per IRC codes and guidelines of MoRT&H and NHAI have been kept in mind during designing of the partial cloverleaf.
