Abstract:
Prameha is defined as a disease characterized by excretion of large quantities of turbid urine or it may be defined as the disease in which urine is excreted excessively, in a very large quantity and frequently. Prameha means excretion of large quantities of one or more products of metabolism in urine, which may or may not be the normal constituents of the urine. It includes a number of metabolic disorders characterized by specific anomaly in the urine. Madhumeha is a disease in which urine of the patient is sweet like honey and quantitatively as well as of astringent, pale and rough/dry quality. The whole body of Madhumehi becomes sweet. Sushruta has termed as ‘Kshaudrameha’ to ‘Madhumeha’. Kshaudra is one of the variety of Madhu. Charaka and Sushruta have mentioned specific colors of Mutra of Madhumehi patient as ‘pandu varna’ and ‘kshaudra rasa varna’ respectively. Sushruta and Vagbhata stated that all types of Prameha can be nomenclatured as Madhumeha because if they kept untreated or ill-treated for long
