But it has been found that representation of women in the panchayati raj institutions remained unsatisfactory. The 73rd Amendment Act of the Indian Constitution creates a remarkable step towards women representation in the panchayati raj institutions by reserving 33% seats for them in the panchayati raj institutions. In the context of Assam, woen participation in the panchayati raj institutions as an elected representative is became high as a result of the reservation introduced for women in the panchayati raj institutions as per the 73rd Constitutional Amendment Act of the Indian constitution. But their representation is not qualitative. The present study will make an attempt to analyse the level of representation of women in the panchayati raj institutions in the context of Assam.
