Prediction of solar radiation is vital for the development of solar technology within the country. Here, an artificial neural network (ANN) has been developed with the use of MATLAB software. Solar data for the city of Hyderabad are collected using data from National Solar Radiation Database (NSRDB). The parameters taken into consideration are Diffuse Horizontal Irradiance(DHI), Direct Normal Irradiation(DNI) and Global Horizontal Irradiance(GHI). Here, DHI and DNI values are taken as inputs while GHI value is taken as the target output. The ANN model has been evaluated by calculating the Mean Square Error(MSE). The correlation coefficient(R) between the predicted values and the actual outputs are calculated. For predictions with higher than R value 0.95, gives high reliability of the developed model. Modelling of neural network is done as to get R value as close to 1 as possible. Monthly solar radiation predictions are made using the developed ANN model and compared to actual values.
