IMPACT OF INDIAN SCHOOLS OF PHILOSOPHY IN THE PRESENT EDUCATION SYSTEM OF INDIA

Western philosophical schools enrich Indian educational practices through various set of philosophical ideas. Western philosophical schools, such as idealism, naturalism and pragmatism have influenced education worldwide, including India. In this paper, an attempt is made to analyse the relevance of Western philosophical schools to present education system of India. The objectives of the present paper are - to analyse the primary features of the Western Philosophy; to analyze the basic ideas of the Western Philosophy regarding the aim of education, curriculum, teaching method, role of teacher and discipline and to evaluate the relevance of the Western School of Philosophy upon the present education system of India. The Western philosophy has profound influence upon various aspects of the Indian education system like- teaching method, role of the teacher, curriculum, discipline and so on. The schools of Western philosophy have noteworthy influence upon the primary, middle and higher stages of teaching-learning process.
